It’s always inspiring to see a celebrity giving back to their community. With the amount of money that flows through Hollywood, it only seems right that some of it go toward making the world a better place. Morgan Freeman is a perfect example of such philanthropic actions. In fact, the actor recently converted his 124-acre ranch into a giant honeybee sanctuary in order to save the bees.
Actor, film director, and philanthropist Morgan Freeman shared his passion for beekeeping back in 2014 during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
The 81-year-old star discussed his experience keeping bees and theimportance of preserving these animals for healthy environments.
Freeman joined the many concerned activists around the world trying to stop the alarming rate at which bees are dying off.
While many of these activists have been planting flowers for the bees to visit or starting petitions to end pesticide use, Freeman decided to take things a step further.
The celebrity converted his 124-acre ranch in Mississippi into a sanctuary for the honeybees.
Speaking about his new bee sanctuary, Freeman said, “There is a concerted effort for bringing bees back onto the planet…We do not realize that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation…I have a lot of flowering things, and I have a gardener too. As she takes care of the bees too, all she does is figure out, ‘OK, what would they like to have?’, so we have got acres and acres of clover, and we have some planting stuff like lavender, I have got like, maybe 140 magnolia trees, big blossoms.”
According to Forbes, Freeman imported 26 beehives from Arkansas to his ranch in Mississippi where he works to feed the bees.
He added that though he never wears a bee suit or hat, Freeman has not been stung yet.
