It’s no secret that Pit Bulls are often a stereotyped breed. People tend to associate them with aggression and violence when in fact, this is far from the case. Unfortunately, due to this common misconception, shelters and rescues are overflowing with Pit Bulls who need homes. That’s why one local tattoo shop in Little Rock, Arkansas is doing their part to help save the bullied breed.
The Empire of Ink in Little Rock, Arkansas is known for their charitable events. The tattoo shop hosts multiple events a year for people to come in and get a tattoo that benefits an important cause.
This month, Empire of Ink is offering paw print tattoos for $25 to help the Out of theAshes Pit Bull Rescue. Out of the Ashes’ mission is to save Pit Bulls in Arkansas from death row.
A recent customer at Empire Ink named Lisa Thrasher was very excited to get her pawprint tattoo.
“Anything I can do that would help the pit bulls in the state that need the help…I’m all over it,” Lisa said.
Lisa hopes it will help people better understand the often mislabeled breed.
“If they’re raised to fight, they’re going to fight and it is how they’re raised. I think that if they were raised gently and raised like my spoiled brats…it’d be totally different,” she said.
Since the event started on Sunday, tattoo artist Darion Griffith has given more than 40 people their pawprints.
“We chose out the ashes because out of all the other organizations, it doesn’t get as much help as it can,” Griffith said.
Griffith says the owner of Empire Ink has a few Pit Bulls of his own and holds the cause near his heart.
“I think it’s important to represent pit bulls because they don’t get the rep that they should. A lot of people see them as an angry type breed, when really they need help just as much as anyone else,” he said.”
Griffith hopes people will continue to help save the breed in any way they can.
“I would say give back in any way that you can. If there’s something to where you can help somebody else or help others then do so, especially if it includes getting a cool tattoo along with it,” Griffith said.
