Police Officer Throws Surprise Party For Bullied Boy After No One Showed Up On His Birthday

Approximately, one in three students is bullied at school. Though strides have been made to help discourage this type of behavior, there are still far too many kids who feel isolated and suffer lasting problems due to bullying.

Fortunately, there are good people out there who do what they can to help a child who’s experienced bullying. One police officer, for example, recently surprised a little boy on his birthday after no one showed up to his party and the story is just the dose of wholesome you need today.

This is 9-year-old Thomas Daniel and his new pal, Officer Lynema of the Grand Rapids Police Department.

The pair met when Officer Lynema saw Thomas chasing after a school bus one morning. When the bus didn’t stop for Thomas, the officer asked if he needed help. Thomas admitted that he had missed the bus and his mom didn’t have a car to take him to school. After speakingwith the boy’s mother, Officer Lynema offered Thomas a ride.

“I saw him running down the sidewalk trying to chase his bus, he was in tears. I tried to stop his school bus for him,” Lynema said. “He informed me he never missed a day of school. I wanted to make sure I could help him as much as I could.”

During their drive, Thomas shared that it was his 9th birthday and even invited the officer to his party after school.

He also confided that he often gets bullied at school and was worried no one would show up for his birthday.

“When he said he wasn’t sure if anyone would be at his party I wanted to be sure that somebody was going to be there,” Lynema said.

Officer Lynema made sure to attend Thomas’s birthday celebration, but unfortunately, he was the only one to attend aside from Thomas’s siblings. He also noticed there was no cake for Thomas.

The next day the officer and his teammates decided to surprise Thomas with his very own Krispy Kreme donut cake and a singing quartet.

The 9-year-old was overjoyed and told the officers, “This is the best birthday ever!”

“People at school are happy for me because Austin … he never lets kids down, he’s a hero,” said Daniel. “I’ll never forget this until the day I die.”

The Grand Rapids Police Department later shared the story on their Facebook page.
