Often people say that the world would be a better place if we all just did a little bit to help others in our day to day lives. All it takes is one little positive action to have a ripple effect of positivity. One person on Twitter witnessed one of those actions and shared it with the world.
In the ultimate show of kindness, a jogger in New York City gave a homeless man his shoes and ran home barefoot.
It was 9am in the WTC area, I watched as a jogger took off his sneakers, gave them to a homeless man, & walked the NYC streets barefoot.

A Twitter user named Antonella shared a video that she took near the World Trade Center in Manhattan on August 18. The video shows a man walking past another man sitting by the curb. Antonella explains that she saw the first man give his shoes to the other. Along with the video, she tweeted:
“It was 9am in the WTC area, I watched as a jogger took off his sneakers, gave them to a homeless man, & walked the NYC streets barefoot. ‘Our character is what we do when we think nobody is looking.'”
Journalist Kemberly Richardson later met the man who received the shoes and took a photo with him.
Along with the photo, Richardson wrote about the man who’s name is Joe Arroyo. She said, “He’s 30 & homeless, seen in a #video that’s gone #viral of a jogger, taking off his running shoes & giving them to him. Those are the shoes.”
Arroyo told Eyewitness News:
“I was sitting here with a sign that I’m homeless and hungry, and my shoes, that they’re broken so I took them off to see if somebody would help me with some money, to raise money to buy a new pair. I never thought somebody would come out and take their shoes off and just give them to me.”
It’s heartwarming to see a simple act of kindness have such a positive effect on someone’s life, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
