An inspirational moment between tennis pros Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff has everyone feeling pretty good about the usually toxic rivalries in professional sports.
Demonstrating that competition can be healthy and winning and losing doesn’t have to look obnoxious, Osaka and Gauff embraced each other after Osaka beat Gauff at the US Open.
The official Instagram of the US Open captioned the clip “What’s it’s all about,” with a heart emoji.
And in a moment that demonstrates both women’s flawless sports etiquette, Osaka encouraged Gauff to speak about her feelings after the match.
“I think it’s better than going into the shower and crying. We have to let these people know how you feel,” Osaka said.
“[Naomi] did amazing. I’m gonna learn a lot from this match. She’s been so sweet to me. So thank you for this. Thank you,” Gauff responded.

The gesture reminded folks of the importance of grace and humility in competition.
The moment that was to be yours alone you instead choose to share it. Taking time for deep appreciation for Coco and recognition of the journey of your families was an act of generosity. You used the platform of the win to create space for respect, appreciation & humanity. 🙏🏽

You are the epitome of class and sportsmanship. Thank you for being a kind and shining light in a dark World. That moment was the feel good moment of the month if not year.
