Naomi Osaka And Coco Gauff Were The Epitome Of Sisterhood After An Emotional Match At The US Open

An inspirational moment between tennis pros Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff has everyone feeling pretty good about the usually toxic rivalries in professional sports.

Demonstrating that competition can be healthy and winning and losing doesn’t have to look obnoxious, Osaka and Gauff embraced each other after Osaka beat Gauff at the US Open.

The official Instagram of the US Open captioned the clip “What’s it’s all about,” with a heart emoji.

And in a moment that demonstrates both women’s flawless sports etiquette, Osaka encouraged Gauff to speak about her feelings after the match.

“I think it’s better than going into the shower and crying. We have to let these people know how you feel,” Osaka said.

“[Naomi] did amazing. I’m gonna learn a lot from this match. She’s been so sweet to me. So thank you for this. Thank you,” Gauff responded.

On Twitter yesterday, Osaka posted a picture of herself and Gauff shaking hands with the caption “Keep your head up, you’ve got so much to be proud of. Warrior.”

The gesture reminded folks of the importance of grace and humility in competition.

“This is what it’s all about. Spread love, compassion, kindness,” wrote Gabrielle Union. “Your light does not dim when you acknowledge the goodness in others. Beautiful to see.”

Groundbreaking tennis champion Billie Jean King also had praise for the two athletes.

“How fortunate we all are to have witnessed the dawning of a new era in women’s tennis,” King wrote.

The lesson here? When women help each other, everyone wins!
