Trinity Arrington is a high schooler from Texas who was recently chosen to be her class’s Homecoming Queen.

And it seems like she’ll be a benevolent monarch, as her first royal decree was to share the honor with her friend Emily Petty. Petty, who was also nominated for Homecoming Queen at S&S High School in Sadler, Texas, has Down Syndrome and was pleased to share the spotlight with her friend of one year.

In an interview about the moment Arrington told KXII News 12: “We got to be it together. I think that was the best part for me.”

The two girls, who are both seniors, shared the honor, walking the football field together to applause.

“I decided to give my crown to my sweet friend Emily because she’s always wanted to be a princess. So I decided she deserved it,” said Arrington.  Meanwhile Petty told interviewers of Arrington:

“I love her. Every day.”
