Working a service-based job is hard enough as it is. You have to deal with demanding customers, long hours on your feet, and most of the time your paycheck isn’t that great either. People who do these jobs aren’t appreciated enough, generally speaking, but the KFC Foundation aimed to change all that when they surprised one of their best employees with a new car.
Crystal Lachance is a KFC employee at one of the franchise’s locations in Salem, Oregon. She also happens to be a single mom who’s putting in long hours to ensure she can take the best possible care of her 9-year-old son, Rhys. For a year now, she’s had to walk to and from work as she’s had no vehicle to transport her. That all changed last month when the company gave her an amazing new car.
The KFC Foundation offers a “Kentucky Fried Wishes” in which employees can nominate a coworker who goesthe extra mile at work and deserve something special. Unbeknownst to her, Lachance was nominated by her boss, Miranda, and she actually won!
Sharing the good news on her Facebook page on Tuesday, Lachance wrote, “I went to work this morning and got surprised with a brand new car. Apparently, my boss Miranda entered me in a drawing a few months ago and I won this brand new car.”
“I have been struggling a lot this year but haven’t gave up and have been working very hard. I finally went in and got my permit and have been trying to save up to buy a car. Now I have a car and the owner of KFC is going to be paying six months of insurance for me. I feel so blessed today and I just love my job and my boss Miranda, she’s seriously is the best boss ever!”
You don’t often hear such positive stories of generosity, especially not from big corporations, so kudos to KFC for rewarding a hard-working member of staff and making her life a little bit easier.
