A British woman is giving back to animals in need in a heartwarming way: by knitting sweaters and blankets to keep them cozy at the shelter.
Maisie Green, 89, has been knitting for years and donating her creations to the Dogs Trust Basildon shelter in the United Kingdom. She has reportedly knit 450 items specifically for the dogs.

“I love knitting and I love dogs, so this combines both wonderfully!” Green told Dogs Trust Basildon. “It takes me three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a doggy coat.”
Dogs Trust is one of the U.K.’s largest dog rescue organizations. They have locations all over and provide care for over 16,000 stray and abandoned dogs each year.
In particular, Dogs Trust Basildon cares for up to 120 dogs at their location. Their websites also says their “facilities include a training barn, veterinary and surgical suite and a dedicated training and rehabilitation unit to enrich the lives of the dogs in our care.”
Green says that knitting provides her with a purpose.
“It keeps me busy and often I like to knit whilst watching television,” Green said. “I’m delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the center in some way.”
Green’s story shows that there are so many ways for people to contribute and give back to their community. Dog shelters are always in need of linens, and Green’s blankets looks super snuggly and comfy.
