With college tuition prices reaching outrageous levels, students and their parents are scrambling to make the possibility of higher education a reality. And one student at the University of Oklahoma just gave himself a big boost in an incredible way—by sinking a half-court shot during the school’s home opener basketball game and winning free tuition for the year.
Cale Montis was watching the game at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman when he was chosen from the crowd to try and win. According to KFOR in Oklahoma City, Montis had to make a free thrown, a lay-up, and a three-point shot in 30 seconds to win the prize.
Well, no problem there.
Footage shows Montis, dressed to support his school in a red “Oklahoma” shirt, shoot and sink the ball. The crowd erupts in cheers and the mascot races onto the court to congratulate him.

The video went viral on Twitter, with folks congratulating Montis and poking fun at the absurdity of the situation in which a school dangles free tuition for you—but only if you can randomly dunk a ball.

I’m sure he’s happy. He’d probably be happier if his fees and books were covered too, since they are nearly double the cost of actual tuition. Free tuition isn’t the whole story!!

Cool his books are still 50k

It’s great that Montis, who played basketball in high school, made the shot. But it would be even better if college was affordable and he didn’t have to!
