Someone Schedule Snuffleupagus A Colonoscopy—”Sesame Street” Just Turned 50

Sure, Elmo and the rest of the Sesame Street squad may look young, but the truth is the show has been airing for half a century. That’s 50 years of teaching kids how to count, spell, and even tie their shoes. To commemorate the occasion, HBO is airing a Sesame Street 50th anniversary special tonight at 7pm.

Celebrity guests Whoopi Goldberg, Patti LaBelle, Elvis Costello, and others will be on hand to kick-off Sesame Street’s 50th season, along with host Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

If you’re not lucky enough to have someone else’s HBO password, the special will also air on PBS November 17th, as part of an arrangement the premium cable channel made with the public TV network when it purchased Sesame Street.

The 50th season of Sesame Street will air on HBO starting November 16th, with new celebrity guests including Chrissy Teigen and comedian Michael Che. HBO subscribers will also have access to the entire 50-year catalog of the show. If your kids don’t know their ABCs after that much Sesame Street, I don’t know what to tell you.
