“They Just Want To Enjoy Being Together”—Dying Man Shares One Last Beer With Children In Viral Photo

Sometimes, last wishes can be uncomplicated. A dying man from Appleton, Wisconsin’s last wish was to share a beer with his children. The moment, which was shared on Twitter and went viral, has lots of folks thinking about how sometimes the simplest requests can be the most powerful.

Norbert Schemm, 87, was losing his fight with stage four colon cancer and just wanted to be with his family and enjoy one last cold beer. The picture memorializing his final wish shows him smiling with his wife Joanne and their children Bob, Tom, and John by his bed.

Schemm died the next day.

“That moment meant so much to my grandfather,” Schemm’s grandson Adam Schemm told TODAY Parents. “You can tell they all know what’s gonna happen, and they just want to enjoy being together. They all have this look of closure.”

“They drank beer and talked about family and he made everyone promise to take care of my grandmother. They were married for 65 years,” Schemm added.

Twitter users were moved by the story. The tweet has over 335 likes and has been retweeted over 33k times.
