Full disclosure: I’ve never flown first class. It looks awesome. You can actually fully recline. There might even be champagne in actual glasses? I don’t know. There might be a circus troupe up there for all I know, performing daring acts while we cram in the back with our fellow plebes watching movies on headphones that crackle and praying our sleeping pill kicks in.
One man gave all that up—the comfort, the room, the more relaxing atmosphere—so an 88-year-old woman named Violet could have her dream of flying First Class come true. And his generous act has gone viral, not to mention folks have also fallen in love with Violet’s exuberance.
Virgin Atlantic Airline flight attendant Leah Amy was working a flight from New York City to Manchester, England last week when she witnessed Jack switch his seat with Violet.

“Of the hundreds of flights I’ve operated, I’ve had the pleasure of looking after footballers, supermodels and some Hollywood movie stars, but let me tell you about my two favorite passengers EVER!” Amy shared on Facebook.
“Jack and his family purchased seats in our upper class cabin for a flight home from New York, but when he got onboard, Jack went and found Violet in economy and swapped seats with her,” Amy continued.
“He then sat on the row of seats directly next to the economy toilets and never made a peep or asked for anything the rest of the flight. No fuss, no attention, literally did it out of the kindness of his own heart, no one asked him too.”
According to the post, Violet had been a nurse in both the UK and America. Her daughter lives in New York, and she travels to see her. However, due to a knee replacement, she hadn’t been able to travel for awhile.
Violet and Jack chatted in the airport before boarding the flight and got to know each other a bit. Once they boarded the flight, Jack found Violet in economy and offered to switch seats with her so her dream of sitting in first class could come true.
Once Violet was in first class, she insisted on taking a picture with the flight crew and Jack so she could share the story with her daughter.
“She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it, but didn’t have a phone or an email address,” says Amy.
“You should have seen her face when I tucked her in her bed after supper.”
