“Nashville is my home and the fact that so many people have lost their homes and so much more in Middle Tennessee is devastating to me,” Swift said on an Instagram story. Though Swift did not disclose how much she donated, her publicist Tree Paine told NBC News that the musician gave $1 million dollars. Swift also included a link to the Response Fund and encouraged fans to donate as well.
In the past, Swift has donated to Nashville during times of disaster. She gave $500,000 to flood relief in 2010. She has also generously shared her earnings with the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and the Nashville Symphony. Last year she gave $113,000 to the Tennessee Equality Project.
The tornado event in Tennessee destroyed at least 45 buildings in Nashville and damaged countless others. More than two dozen people were killed and at least 150 people were hospitalized across five counties.
