Machete star Danny Trejo is showing up, literally in person, for healthcare workers— and donating hundreds of hot meals to overworked hospital staff battling coronavirus.
Trejo, 75, owns the restaurant chain Trejo’s Tacos and donated bowls of chicken, steak Asada, carnitas, and more.
The actor and entrepreneur posted a video of dozens of volunteers working for the Trejo’s Tacos operation unloading the meals and distributing them to hospital workers at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Los Angeles.

Trejo, fitted with a face mask and latex gloves, introduces the video: “Right now I’m at Verdugo Hills Hospital, I’m sitting with the real angels of Los Angeles right now… All the people that are really on the front lines.”
“We’re just here…bringing some food, but really, they’re the ones saving lives.”
A hospital staff member onsite expressed gratitude for Trejo’s act of generosity: “He’s always been there supporting the community, and he’s doing it again.”
The staff member later added that the food helped keep morale high and got everyone “excited again…to keep fighting on.”
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, Trejo has been giving back to the community through each of his three Trejo’s Tacos restaurant locations in the Los Angeles area.
The Santa Monica restaurant is located in the Colony Kitchen. Trejo says in his video that five different restaurants from the Colony are all donating meals to healthcare workers, “so it’s everybody helping everybody,” he added.
Colony has also partnered with Help Feed the Frontline Fighting COVID-19 LA to feed healthcare workers during the crisis.
Colony aims to do what it can to keep “local Los Angeles restaurants open during this unprecedented crisis.” They are accepting donations toward the effort at OrderColony.com.
Trejo’s acting career began in the 1980s, and since then, the icon has earned over 400 movie and TV acting credits.
He is best-known for his starring role in Machete and its sequel Machete Kills. Among the actor’s multiple projects in development and post-production, a third film, Machete Kills in Space is in the works.
