A little boy named Cooper’s request of a FedEx driver went viral and started a heartwarming exchange with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
Earlier this week, Cooper chased down the delivery driver, asking that he deliver a package to Tony Hawk for him. The FedEx worker, named Mikail, was amused and waited for the boy in the street as he ran home to retrieve the shipment.
Cooper came back with a well-worn—okay, fully shredded—skateboard inscribed on either end with the names “Tony Hawk” and “Cooper” in a child’s handwriting.
Mikail recalled, “He says get this to Tony Hawk for me. Tell him it’s from Cooper.”
Believe it or not, contrary to Cooper’s assumptions, Mikail the FedEx delivery driver does not actually know Tony Hawk’s address. But the intrepid frontline worker chose to accept the challenge anyway and told Cooper he’d get it done.
“The least I could do was put it out there in the universe,” he said. Mikail, AKA @fresh2deaf, took to TikTok to share the story, hoping Tony Hawk would catch word.
“So Tony, if you see this, Cooper in Suwanee, Georgia, is a big fan. Maybe you could give him a shoutout and the next time I drive by his house I’ll show him the video and it’ll probably make his whole life,” he said in the video.
4 million views and just hours later, Hawk responded with his own video, thanking Mikail for relaying the message, and Cooper, for sending the skateboard.
But that’s not all Hawk had to say in his TikTok response.
The 10-time X Games gold medalist held up the board he’d been riding while recording the video and told Cooper he planned to send it to him in return for the thoughtful gift.
Mikail followed up with young Cooper to share the good news and posted an adorable video of Cooper and his older brother, Tucker, thanking their generous hero.
Looks like Hawk’s skateboard is on it’s way to Cooper right now:
And one more round of applause for Mikail— way to go above and beyond the call of duty to help keep people connected during lockdown!
