Video of New York City hospital staff applauding protestors has gone viral.
In a video shared by Sarah Walton and Nadia Becir of Feature News, the staff at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center stands on the sidewalk, clapping for protestors marching against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.
Footage shows the protestors returning the applause and ‘thank you’s’ to healthcare workers, showing the mutual appreciation of both groups working to heal the country.
Walton, a correspondent for international news agency Feature Story News recounted the event, “The protest I saw was completely peaceful and they received a lot of support from the public as they marched.”
“But this moment was particularly touching. Every night at 7 p.m. for the last few months, New Yorkers have clapped for the healthcare workers fighting COVID-19. These medics took the time to return that favor, clapping for those fighting for justice and equality.”
The Black-led initiative began on May 26 in Minneapolis following the killing of George Floyd, a black man who was the victim of police brutality. Americans continue to demonstrate in peaceful protest to fight systemic racism and claim justice for Black Americans.
