“I’ll Take Happy Memories For $400, Alex”—People Are Sharing How Alex Trebek Touched Their Lives

On Nov. 8, the world got news that beloved broadcast figure and Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek had passed away at age 80.

In 2019, he announced on his show that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. His words were powerful, inspiring and made the host appear hopeful toward his health.

“Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this,” Trebek said on air. “And I’m going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends —and with the help of your prayers also — I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”

Since diagnosis, Trebek remained devoted to his Jeopardy audiences and continued to work through his treatment, a testament to his years-long dedication to Jeopardy and those who love it. He became Jeopardy’s host in 1984 and since then hosted more episodes of any TV show presenter – passing Bob Barker – racking up more than 8,200 episodes. Trebek’s last day in the studio Oct. 29 and final Trebek episodes will air through Dec. 25, 2020.

Immediately after the news was announced, people flocked to the internet to share their Trebek memories. Below are 20 sweet tributes.
