Nandi Bushell caught the attention of Foo Fighter’s drummer, Dave Grohl, after she posted a video of herself drumming to the band’s song, “Everlong.” He then posted a video of himself drumming along with her and the drummer then offered her the chance to jam on stage with the band.
After posting the video, Grohl decided to post his own video matching the 10-year-old, beat for beat. He then thought it would be fun to challenge his new friend to a drum-off but this time, to the song “Dead End Friends” by Them Crooked Vultures. The young girl, who has been drumming since she was five, played so well that Grohl gave up and conceded.
The two have kept in touch and created music for each other. Grohl made Bushell her own theme song with his daughters calling her a superhero and tweeting out the video with the caption, “Every superhero needs a theme song. Here’s one for you! Mad props to The Grohlettes for the background vocals.”
The lyrics include lines like “She got the power/She got the soul/Gonna save the world with her rock & roll!” She then created her own song for him not only singing and playing the drums, she played on the keyboard, guitar and bass.
As their battle continued, they were able to get on a video call — thanks to the New York Times — and after chatting about drumming and music for a while, Grohl asked Nandi an important question: “I have a question… When the Foo Fighters finally come back to the UK, do you think you would get up on stage and jam with us?”
Without even hesitating, she responded, “Yes! Definitely! A hundred percent!”
He then replied, “Okay. but it has to be at end of the set, because you’re gonna steal the show…. Or we should make a song together?”
Again, ecstatic about the opportunity that was presented to her, she agreed again without hesitation, “Yes!”
