Vice President Kamala Harris was escorted to her inauguration by Eugene Goodman, the Capitol Police officer and US Army veteran who bravely led the crowd of pro-Trump rioters and insurrectionists away from the Senate chamber when the Capitol was attacked on January 6. In doing so, Goodman likely prevented more violence and destruction.
Since his heroic act during the attack, lawmakers on both sides have called for Goodman to receive a Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest honor Congress bestows. He has also been named the acting deputy sergeant-at-arms for the House for Inauguration Day.
Goodman received a loud round of applause as he appeared and led Harris to her place in history as the first woman and first African American and South Asian to become Vice President of the United States. He’s definitely had an intense and historical two weeks!
