Did you know that dogs have 220 million scent receptors? Their acute senses, 10,000 to 100,000 times stronger than a human’s, allow them to sniff out illnesses, to support people during times of stress and crisis.
Sadie, a 6-year-old German Shepherd, knew something was wrong when her owner, Brian, collapsed onto the floor.
Brian was suffering from a stroke, and Sadie went into crisis mode. She stayed by her owner’s side and began to lick his face, urging him to wake up.
Sadie then proceeded to drag Brian’s body towards his cell phone, where he was finally able to call 911.
Rampapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, the shelter where Brian adopted Sadie just months before, shared their incredible story on their Facebook page.
“She was especially nervous with men, [but] Brian felt a special bond with Sadie, as he valued her intelligence, hesitancy to trust and fierce loyalty once she did form that trust.”Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge
