Christi, a 6-year-old Australian shepherd, has never experienced snow in her entire doggy life. She was merely exploring her backyard in Southlake, Texas, when she made her way onto the frozen surface of a swimming pool. Christi fell through the surface, plunging into the frigid water, clinging to the ice.
Luckily for Christi, her owner, Dan Holmes, was nearby and reacted immediately. Holmes got down on his hands and knees to spread pressure, and cautiously made his way onto the ice. He fell through, dropping him in the freezing water. Thankfully, he was able to guide his pet to safety and back onto dry land.
“I was cleaning snow away from the windows when my wife started screaming all of a sudden and I turned around and saw Christi hanging onto the ice…
I was petrified. I didn’t really know what to do. I went to the side and she was at the middle, and I couldn’t get to her, so I put my hand down and fell in and rolled over and grabbed her and pulled her out as fast as I could.”Dan Holmes
Holme’s home security camera captured the whole ordeal. He wants to encourage fellow pet owners to be mindful of the weather and the conditions, wanting others to avoid the scary moment he and Christi experienced.
“Warning, if you have pets, be careful. Watch this video, thank goodness I was out near the pool.”Dan Holmes
