Snow and flooding caused large-scale damage to the Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support in Dallas, Texas. The weather crisis damaged the transitional housing facilities, as well as the organization’s school and office spaces. The organization worried about their tenants, as they’ve hosted women and children escaping from abusive situations for almost 40 years.
Luckily, help came from an unexpected source — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, through their independent nonprofit, the Archwell Foundation.
The Duke and Duchess Of Sussex’s donation will fix the broken roof and make repairs to Annie’s House.
Genesis serves 3,700 women and children each year, and the unpredictable winter weather caused the organization to close its doors for the first time in its decades of operation.
“Today, we were notified that through the actions of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nonprofit, Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry and Meghan will make a donation to help us get back on our feet…
Not only will this gift provide for our critical needs, it shines an international spotlight on violence against women and children, letting survivors know that they are not alone.”Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support
Fans of the former royals took to Twitter to express their support for the charitable act.
Earlier this month, Meghan and Harry announced that they are expecting their second child in August 2021.
