While filming Kids Say The Darndest Things, comedian Tiffany Haddish learned that she won a Grammy award for Best Comedy Album for her Netflix special “Black Mitzvah.”
A producer reported the good news to Haddish through her earpiece, which prompted her to stop her mid-interview, tear up, and ask if it was real.
“Can I tell you why I’m crying? It’s a lot of bumpy roads that you cross, right? And it’s a lot of times that you feel like, ‘Am I doing the right thing? Is this good enough? Am I good enough? Am I strong enough to do this job?’”
“And then you just have to believe in yourself as much as you can. Against all odds, you just say, ‘You know what? I’m going to just put my best foot forward, and I’m going to give the world the best that I got.’ Right? Anything is possible.”
This would be only the second time that a black woman has earned an accolade in this category, the last woman receiving acclaim being Whoopi Goldberg in 1986.
Notably, Haddish is only the sixth woman to win the award as well. The acclaimed actress took a moment to explain to the kids she was interviewing exactly why she was so emotional.
