This Stray Pup Kept Sneaking Into A Dollar Store To Steal A Stuffed Unicorn—Now He’s Got His Own And A New Home Too

The Dollar General in Kenansville, North Carolina recently had a shoplifting problem. A certain purple, plush unicorn kept disappearing from the store’s toy aisle.

However, the assailant wasn’t your usual suspect, it was a stray dog that decided it wanted to be best friends with the stuffed unicorn.

The stray was caught red-pawed FIVE times returning to the scene of the crime to retrieve his magical buddy.

Employees at the Dollar General shared that the dog would run into the store and bee-line straight for the unicorn every time a customer came through the door. Eventually they had to lock the doors when the dog was inside, and animal services was then called to the scene to assist with the playful pup.

“He went straight for the unicorn, the same one every time. It was so strange, one of the strangest calls I’ve ever dealt with.”

Joe Newburn, Duplin County Animal Services Supervisor

Luckily, this story has a happy ending for the stray and for his beloved plushie.

Samantha Lane, the officer who responded to the Dollar General’s call, was so moved by the dog’s devotion toward the toy, she purchased it for him. The dog was happy to follow Lane anywhere once she made the $10 toy purchase.

Lane brought the canine (and the unicorn) to a Duplin County Animal Services shelter, where the dog was named Sisu after the dragon character in Disney’s newest film, Raya and the Last Dragon.

Sisu’s journey was shared on the Duplin County Animal Shelter’s Facebook page, and the post captured thousands of hearts on the Internet.

The shelter received a large number of inquiries about Sisu, and they are proud to report that Sisu and his best unicorn friend now have been placed with an adoptive family. The Dollar General was happy to send more unicorns home with Sisu and his new owners, just in case.

This is the beginning of a long, beautiful friendship.
