UK teen Paige Hunter, 18, took the time to post over 40 messages of encouragement and hope at Sunderland’s Wearmouth Bridge.
According to the BBC, police officials have reported that Hunter’s messages have saved at least six lives thus far.
Hunter felt compelled to leave these notes to help those struggling with a mental health crisis. The teen provided contact information for mental health resources, and laminated the notes to protect them from weather elements as well.
One note read, “Even though things are difficult, your life matters; you’re a shining light in a dark world, so just hold on.”
Hunter has been recognized by her community, having been awarded with a commendation certificate from the Northumbria police.
Police chief superintendent Sarah Pitt said that Hunter’s approach was an “innovative way to reach out to those in a dark place.”
