It’s not every day when you get to push around a brown bear and live to tell the tale. It’s not an everyday occurrence when your bear ass-kicking is recorded and goes viral on the Internet either.
Hailey Morinico, 17, had a very memorable Memorial Day weekend.
In a video shared online earlier this week, a mama bear is shown walking along a brick wall, followed by her two cubs.
Four dogs started barking and growling at the intruders and then ran at the bears. The cubs fled while their mom clawed at the dogs.
Suddenly, Morinico ran into the frame, then sprinted towards the bear and shoved it off the wall. She then scooped up her puppy and got the hell out of there, as the other dogs ran away.
The security camera footage of the incident was first shared in a family group chat. As you can imagine, there were mixed reactions of awe, surprise, fear, and concern.
“We immediately told her to NEVER do that again,” said cousin Lopez Rincon to BuzzFeed News. “I felt a mixture of shock and a little proud of her because of how brave she is.”
Rincon describes her cousin’s character as a shy and sweet person who really loves her dogs.
Morinico, a Bradbury, California resident, explained on TikTok later that she lives in the mountains and that visits from bears are common, especially in the summertime.
She said that she was merely checking on her pets when she heard them barking so assertively.
“I go to tell them to stop and when I go over there to see what they’re barking at, I’m like, That’s a funny-looking dog,” she joked.
We’d say that Morinico did more than the bear minimum.
